Civil Conversation with the 3i1K Podcast
Three of TISB’s Grade 12 students, Pranav, Mukesh and Anirban, have started an interactive podcast called ‘3i1K’ on the social platform Twitch; where anyone with a Twitch account can come and contribute to the conversation in real time. The podcast was conceived and initiated in the start of 2020, and aims to encourage civil dialogue on a range of topics. We got in touch with Pranav from the team, to get a better understanding of the idea behind the podcast.
We aim to inform, educate and engage in civil conversation regarding a plethora of issues and opinions – Pranav, Grade 12
Through the podcast the 3i1K team wants to address what they see as the most significant problem in today’s society: civil conversation, where people today are just unwilling to talk to each other. The team wants to build knowledge and awareness, and engage people in dialogue regarding a plethora of issues, different viewpoints and opinions. “Originally, we were inspired by our seniors, for example The Proton Magazine creators, to try out something different and never really done before – to give back to the community in an innovative way”, says Pranav. Therefore, the podcast, which is now on its second season, include different perspectives in the show by opening the chat box to anyone with a Twitch account.
Pranav, Mukesh and Anirban, who are hosting each episode of the 3i1K podcast, target social media users who passionately and forcefully believe in their own ideas and opinions, including them in a dialogue. “The content consists of civil discussions between the podcast hosts and occasional debates between community members”, says Pranav. To make the podcast stream online, the team are using a software called Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) that was used during the 2020 edition of VIVUM. This enables the team to include more people in the debate. “We seek to further spread our message by organizing moderated debates in our community Discord server”, explains Pranav.
