Curriculum for Primary Years - Lower Grade 1 - Grade 5
The Curriculum in the Primary Years is based on the National Curriculum for England and the Cambridge Primary Curriculum and aims to ensure that young people become successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens. The structure of the curriculum has been designed to provide breadth and balance whilst maintaining focus on English and Mathematics.
There is a strong emphasis on children’s personal development, including the development of learning and thinking skills and personal, social and emotional skills. Throughout the PY curriculum we embed a comprehensive PSHME programme which explicitly supports the PY values.
All areas of learning are delivered to the children through the teaching of two themes per school term, with the exception of Mathematics and elements of English which are taught as discrete subjects. Depending upon their age, the children have specialist lessons each week for Science, Physical Education, Music, Computing, Art, Languages and a Library lesson.
