In the IB Early Years (ages 3-5) at TISB, play is central to learning. Through purposeful play, children inquire, explore, and build confidence while developing socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. Teachers guide this journey by observing children’s interests and creating meaningful experiences. For example, in Who We Are, children explore friendships through role-play and art, while in How We Express Ourselves, they create rhymes, songs, and performances to share feelings and ideas.
Our youngest learners (ages 3–5) engage with four of the PYP’s six transdisciplinary themes each year, investigating big ideas through hands-on inquiry. Units such as Me and My Friends, Celebrations and Festivals, Let’s Explore and Discover, and In the Role of a Scientist give children opportunities to ask questions, collaborate, and make discoveries. This nurturing, play-based approach ensures they grow as curious thinkers, caring friends, and active learners from the very start of their TISB journey.
