Cycling Kilometres for Covid in Saudi Arabia
Recently a team of TISB Grade 11 students, Sneha, Sreya, Laila and Keerthana, planned and carried out an inter-House sporting event called Kilometres for Covid. The purpose of the event was to raise funds with the purpose of Covid relief. The event has been open to students from Grades 6 to 12 to participate and earn points for their house, and at the same time raise money for the cause a good cause through sponsorship. Being online and on a distance, participating students have been partaking all over the world. We got in touch with Vedant, a Grade 9 student who took part in the challenge from Saudi Arabia.
I decided to take part in this event to help people in need who were affected by this pandemic and require financial support to come out from a crucial situation – Vedant, Grade 9
Vedant has always had a keen interest to participate in initiatives with a social purpose and that can benefit people who are in need. “It gives me internal satisfaction to extend my support for humanity”, says Vedant, who chose to cycle instead of running, as he knew he would be able to get more funds out of his 13 sponsors on a bike rather than running.
Completing 23.1 kilometres in one hour was safe as well in his gated community in Saudi Arabia. “Being on the bicycle for this purpose gave me more strength and motivation to push me and continue cycling for the whole hour”, says Vedant who felt a sense of motivation and incentivised him along the way.
The team behind the Kilometres for Covid initiative are busy collecting reports and counting up results. Stay tuned for the final results and the impact of the collected kilometres and funds.
