Covid Kits to the Frontline
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shaunak and Kushagra from Grade 12 have been working with collecting funds, purchasing material, and assembling and distributing COVID kits to civil servants and people in need. Since the last round of COVID kit deliveries, the two have worked on developing their website and media presence, as well as delivering a new round of kits. We reached out to Shaunak and Kushagra to learn more about what has happened and their thoughts about the future.
We have worked with newer vendors and completed a milestone of 5000 kits – Shaunak and Kushagra, Grade 12
In their last round, Shaunak and Kushagra delivered the COVID kits to construction workers, many of whom were migrant day labourers in need of both food and sanitary supplies. This time, they decided to return to the frontline workers. “We decided to focus on going back to our first drive and hand out a tasty breakfast to Police officers”, says Shaunak and Kushagra, who handed out 500 containers of idlis, vadas and a sweet. “As always, we wanted to express how grateful we were, and were also given an opportunity to deliver a speech to all the staff of the Koramangala police station.”
Having reached their milestone of 5000 kits, the team has faced some difficulties along the road. “One of the biggest challenges that we faced was the procurement and packaging of the food”, explains Shaunak and Kushagra, who managed the logistics by personally meeting the food vendor, buying sustainable packaging to reduce the carbon footprint, and planned it in a way that the policemen received hot and fresh food.
Growing as an initiative, the team has established a presence in five cities in India through volunteers. "We now have bigger aspirations and want to reach 10,000 kits by December”, says Shaunak and Kushagra, who believe that it is a realistic goal. “Furthermore, we wish to continue this initiative of ours at college in a couple months time.” To make this happen, the team would like to thank everyone who has supported them, and invites anyone who would like to partner with them or help out in any way possible.
