This Very Sky: A collection of poems

Having written poetry for quite some time, Aanya in Grade 12 has recently published a Kindle book on Amazon titled ‘This Very Sky: A collection of poems’. The collection is geared towards a broad audience and aims to provide inspiration through the perspective of a teenager, who is observing the world sometimes up close, and at other times from afar. We reached out to Aanya to find out more about her book and her plans for the future. 

Writing poetry allows me to combine descriptions of events that take place and the emotions they evoke in me – Aanya, Grade 12 

Aanya has been writing poems as a form of self-expression and felt that a book would be a good way to compile and share her work. “The process of putting words together to create meaning, is often cathartic and helps me frame and express my perspective on scenes or thoughts that I find important”, says Aanya, whose book contains many pieces about the beauty of nature, as well as poems based on a variety of her thoughts, reflections and experiences.  

Through her book Aanya would like to reach others and inspire them to have a different outlook on their own natural surroundings or internal thoughts. “By sharing this perspective with the rest of the world, I hope to instill a similar appreciation in readers for the themes that I write about”, says Aanya, whose book is aimed at a broad audience with many different kinds of readers. “A broad audience would include anyone who enjoys light themes and upbeat writing, but I usually try to write in a way that is accessible to as many people as possible.”
