My Pen My Friend
‘My Pen My Friend’ is a website launched by TISB Grade 8 student Aarushi and her friend. The website is an online platform that collects contributions from middle and senior school students from all over India. The publication was started because the founders felt like writing as a hobby no longer was pursued, and that young authors struggle with finding a reliable outlet where their work can be appreciated by others in their own age group.
To address this, we launched ‘My Pen My Friend’. We use our platform to inform others about news, technological developments and any other events taking place right now. We hope publishing these young author’s works will also motivate others to write more – Aarushi, Grade 8
TISB student Aarushi is very interested in wildlife and travel photography. She is a musician and poet at heart, and was recently awarded second place in the poetry segment in the competition ‘Lockdown Diaries’. In July 2020, Aarushi and one of her friends from Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai launched the online publication ‘My Pen My Friend’ to create an opportunity for middle and senior school students to express themselves and give an outlet for their creativity.
The publication is open to the public and accepts any articles sent by middle- and high school students. Articles on the website are written on a variety of topics including: news, opinions, technology, sports, travel, book and film reviews, people and biographies, fiction, history and poetry. ‘My Pen My Friend’ is an ongoing online publication. “We publish new articles every two days and the newsletter is sent to all our subscribers by mail”, Aarushi explains.
The team behind ‘My Pen My Friend’ hope to hold several workshops with authors and young authors from around the world, with the ambition to improve the quality of writing by students. Aarushi points out that it is to “bring back the love of writing and reading to our generation and to provide a platform to attract students from all over the world to read and write more”. In the meantime, Aarushi and the rest of the editorial team are busy writing, reading received articles, checking for plagiarism and grammatical errors before publishing contributions. “We give everyone who sends us their articles a fair chance. However, we wish to maintain a certain quality of articles. To ensure this, we have a set of guidelines”, Aarushi notes.
