Poetry Published about the ‘COVID Superheroes’
Recently a poem, ‘COVID Superheroes’, written by Veruschka from Grade 8 became published in the book ‘Young Verses’ by ArtMantram. Veruschka has been engaged and creative in the past; she had a book published and available on amazon. Being part of the published poetry encourages her to keep writing, which previously encouraged her to produce a winning poem. We reached out to Veruschka to find out and learn more about her passion poetry.
I have never written poetry for the sole intent of publication – Veruschka, Grade 8
About two and a half years ago, by the age of 12 years old and before publishing her book, Veruschka had created a pile of poetry in her notebook. When she saw the offer of the Young Verses book, she instantly saw the potential for sharing her thoughts and ideology on the ongoing Covid situation. “All of the times I have ever written poetry, it has all been by my wish and will, and more importantly by the influence of any emotion I feel”, explains Veruschka, who wrote the poem before the offer of being published in the book came up.
When the first wave of Covid was happening and Veruschka heard from a friend about Marvel and her favourite superhero, she grasped that she should proceed to acknowledge and glorify people who fought against Covid and negative results. “That is when I realised all the doctors, nurses and frontline helpers must be going through the same”, says Veruschka, whose father was health commissioner of Karnataka at the time, and came home late every day and woke up at 5am to do his files for the planning and management of the situation.
Poetry and writing has always been Veruschka’s passion and calling her to produce, and it is something she dreams of to continue and focus on in the future: “Even when I am stripped of all components that compose me as an individual, a thought is something which I always have, and this thought always shapes into poetry. It's a great way for me to express myself, and be enthralled and engrossed by the sheer magic of the art.”
