TISB Fairtrade club – Inspiring and Sustainable News

Spreading news, information and awareness, and having encouraging plans and trainings with their Fairtrade club, Mahika, Srijanee, Meeli, Krishnarya, Jahnavi, Aanya and Sara from Grade 11, aim to inspire and change behaviour of other people. As such, they aim to contribute by carrying out responsible and sustainable actions. We got in touch with the students to get a better understanding of their club, projects and plans for the future. 

Our club hopes to continue with the Fairtrade India Schools Program – TISB Fairtrade club team

The purpose and aim of our Fairtrade club here at TISB is to spread awareness and educate the community on how they can make more responsible and sustainable choices, in everyday lives. “Besides the awareness activities that we have already conducted, we are consistently attempting to educate others through the Instagram page we've set up”, says Krishnarya, whose team frequently post reels and guides, educating their audience on their Fairtrade Instagram. 

Throughout the time that the Fairtrade club have been active, they have done a great deal of things. “Our most recent online campaign was for Fashion Revolution Week, with an aim to inspire fashion activism and make people more aware of the social and environmental cost of their fashion choices”, explains Srijanee, who along with the team held a small movie screening discussion on the same theme. “Before spring break, we also held a Fairtrade football match for all boarders, which was amazing to organise and see come into fruition!” 

The Fairtrade club hopes to continue with their programme and gradually achieve each of the awards for TISB in the Fairtrade India Schools Program: FAIRAWARE, FAIRACTIVE, and FAIRACHIEVER. “We look forward to working with our school community as well as Fairtrade India to effectively integrate TISB with the Fairtrade Movement, and eventually certify the school as one of India’s Fairtrade Schools”, explains Mahika, who adds that the team club currently have been coming out with a lot of fresh content on their social media, such as Fashion Revolution Week. “We also plan on conducting a lot more awareness-raising activities along with some fundraisers to further commit TISB to sustainability, SDG 12, and the Fairtrade Movement.”
