Ananya in Grade 8 has recently written a book titled ‘Shark & Fish Tales’. The book will be published on September 9 by Maiya Publishing. A part of the proceeds from the book sales will be donated to a charitable organisation called Santhwana, an organisation based in Bangalore and that works with homeless physically and mentally challenged children. We reached out to Ananya to find out more about her book and how it came about.

This is a cause that me and my family support and is very close to our heart – Ananya, Grade 8

The ‘Shark & Fish Tales’ is a book about two characters: Toby, an orangish-yellow fish, and Nico, a lonely shark who has no friends. The book is written for children in the age group of 4-10 years, who would like a warm fictional tale about unlikely friendships, adventures and much more.

Ananya started thinking about the book when she was younger, and when she and her friend were tasked to write a story and present it in one of their classes. “The next day my family and I went to the Dubai aquarium. It was a beautiful place and I was amazed by the types of fish, their colours and sizes”, says Ananya, who after getting back home from the aquarium, decided to create a story based on life under the sea.

Writing the ‘Shark & Fish Tales’ and having it published has inspired Ananya to create new works later in the future. “But for now I am just thinking of reading more and getting inspiration to write the next book”, says Ananya, who in the meantime is looking forward to 9 September and the launching of her book.

The book can be purchased as an online version or as a hard copy, available on the Maiya Publishing website from September 9, 2021. For more information and background on the work of the charitable organisation, visit the Santhwana website
