Cancel Cancer Club - Breast Cancer Awareness Month
This week is the last of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held in October every year. The annual event is a campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer and people all over the world show their support for people affected by breast cancer. This academic year TISB has a new student-led After-School club, the Cancel Cancer Club. We reached out to the student leaders of the club, Anika and Riya in Grade 10, to learn more about the club and what the upcoming plans are.
We believe that joining our club is a great opportunity to not only explore your interests in Oncology, but to also acquire other essential skills that maybe beneficial in the future – Anika and Riya, Grade 10
The Cancel Cancer Club meets every Tuesday after school, discusses basic information about cancer, spreading awareness to people in the and outside of the group, raising funds for cancer patients and volunteering at cancer rehabilitation centres. “Despite many advancements in cancer treatment and screening, the cases continue to rise, and this is partially because of the lack of awareness and knowledge on the topic”, says Anika and Riya, who started the Cancel Cancer Club to educate students, teachers and staff on the importance of cancer awareness and prevention.
Currently, other than discussing topics related to cancer, the club’s team are working with volunteering at cancer rehabilitation centres and non-profit organisations, such as MammaMobile and Karunashraya. “We are also planning to hold fundraisers at our school in the future in order to fulfil our short-term goal of donating Rs 20,000 to MammaMobile”, explains Anika and Riya.
If you are interested in working with the Cancel Cancer Club, contact Anika and Riya and join their club next semester.
