Olympiad Winners - Maths Olympiad and SOF
Four TISB students recently took part in two different Olympiads and received brilliant results. Naman (Grade 9), Sreyas (Grade 8) and Ishaan (Grade 8) took part in the Maths Olympiad, and Achintya (Grade 8) took part in the International Mathematics Olympiad and the International English Olympiad of ‘Science Olympiad Foundation’ challenges. We reached out to Naman and Achintya to learn more about the Olympiads and how it feels to be a winner.
One should participate in these competitive exams other than just sticking to school examinations – Achintya, Grade 8
The Maths Olympiad took place online in a one-hour multi-choice exam with 35 questions and increasing difficulty in different topics. Naman scored 97.02% and was awarded the title of ‘International Maths Olympiad Champion’. “I've always enjoyed maths and I wanted to challenge myself in an external exam”, says Naman, who felt that this was a good opportunity for him to explore his interest in mathematics. “I was very pleased. It inspired me to work harder and participate in more such competitions.”
Achintya decided to take part in two of the challenges, International Mathematics Olympiad and the International English Olympiad, hosted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). The competition was held online and under supervision via an application. He decided to join the Olympiad because his sister usually takes part in the SOF, which persuaded him to do something other than school. “It is important to sometimes do things irregular and unusual, because I feel we should try everything in life and then opt for what is best”, explains Achintya. “Prizes made me feel good and inspired me to participate in all the subjects of the SOF Olympiad.”
