Hill Spring Math Olympiad – 1st Place!

Taking part in the Hill Spring Math Olympiad on 11 and 12 February, Shravan, Shubhayan and Dhruv from Grade 11 won a trophy and took first place in this year’s competition. The team was part of the senior category and took part in 15 questions during one hour in the first round, one hour among nine teams during the second round, and 45 minutes in the last rapid fire round for three teams. We reached out to the champions to learn more about their efforts and championship.

Shravan, Shubhayan and Dhruv have always found maths interesting and wanted to participate in a competition. The competition was divided into two parts: The initial round and the final round; where the initial round consisted of an individual test, and the final round had a jeopardy-like team-game. “The collaborative nature of the competition also appealed to us”, says the team, who enjoyed the chance to work together as a really exciting prospect.  

Being a winner in the competition felt great for the participant team. “We’d love to participate in more maths competitions, individually and as a team, and learn more about problem-solving methods through the best way possible: experience”, explains the team, who have felt that the experience has helped developing them for the future. “Anyone interested in exploring mathematical contests should definitely participate in Hill Spring!”, says the participants, feeling that the competition is both well-organised and a ton of fun. “It puts a nice spin on the usual math competition, with inventive rounds and scoring techniques, and it’s also a great way for one to improve – all while having fun!”
