International Finance Olympiad
In the Karnataka region, the ‘International Finance Olympiad’ took place, and Ameya from Grade 11 secured 4th position. Students in Grades between 8 and 12 undertake their ambitions and become familiar with the need and art of managing money. The Finance Olympiad this year was conducted in two rounds; whilst both the rounds were based on multiple choice questions, the second round included questions related to current affairs and recent economic events. We reached out to Ameya to learn more about the event and his learnings.
I have always enjoyed Economics at school – Ameya, Grade 11
Being passionate about Economics, Ameya wanted to explore the finance aspects and subjects at the International Finance Olympiad (IFO). “I felt that the IFO would challenge me to gain a better knowledge in the field”, says Ameya, who saw this as one of the reasons to join the Olympiad. “I felt that the most challenging aspect of the Olympiad was memorising the various financial institutions that are present in India and the role they play”, explains Ameya, who among the participants had to remember information about the largest companies in the world, and prominent Indian companies such as the Reliance and Bajaj group.
Having received 4th place in the IFO and the experience has motivated Ameya to explore the subject further. “I have to say that the International Finance Olympiad has allowed me to gain a better overview on the financial situation in India”, explains Ameya, who feels that it has given him a better understanding of larger economies around the world. “I feel that this experience has given me a strong background in the subject, which I can utilise to explore my interests further.”
Ameya recommend more students from the school to participate in the competition: “The final round of the Olympiad is a school round, where the top 4 schools from each state are chosen based on the cumulative scores of its participants.” Because TISB won the competition two years back, Ameya feels that this is something to continue. “That’s why I would recommend any student who is interested in the fields of Economics and Finance to explore this competition.”
