The 2021 International Maths Olympiad Challenge was held in December, with participation of thousands of students globally. The competition was intense with many geniuses, but Apoorva from Grade 8 performed very well, scoring 96.29% and was awarded the title of International Maths Olympiad Champion. We reached out to Apoorva to find out more about her experience in the Olympiad.
I love Maths and problem-solving – Apoorva, Grade 8
Being a passionate Mathematics enthusiast, Apoorva joined the International Maths Olympiad to challenge herself, learn and improve her skills. The Olympiad took place online and had three rounds, each round with an increasing level of difficulty. Each round was a one-hour multiple-choice exam, with 34 questions, covering various topics in Mathematics.
Winning the title of International Maths Olympiad Champion has brought her motivation for the future. “I was very ecstatic, and it encouraged me to continue exploring more difficult topics in Maths”, says Apoorva, who has been inspired to keep participating in more competitions. But it is not all about winning a title or a prize. “I feel it is important to participate in such competitions for the love of the subject and the joy of learning more in-depth about it, not for just the prize”, says Apoorva, recommending others to only compete in something that interests them.
