Kicking it with Taekwondo Champion
In November 2021, Aahana from Grade 8 secured two gold and one bronze medal at the 38th State Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior & Senior Kyorugi & Poomsae Taekwondo Championships held in Tumkur, Karnataka. The tournament was organised by Taekwondo Federation of India, and was the second successive annual state championship in which Aahana has completed as a medal winner in multiple categories. We reached out to Aahana to find out more about her passion for taekwondo and dreams of the future.
My family has always encouraged me and my brother to take up different sports – Aahana, Grade 8
Inspired and supported by her family, Aahana has been encouraged to pick up different kinds of sports from an early age. “My older brother had a predilection for martial arts, and that got me interested as well. As I grew older, I enjoyed Taekwondo even more as I realized I could improve with practice”, says Aahana, who has been learning taekwondo for over eight years and attend classes four to six times per week. “While training for tournaments, my practice sessions intensify.”
In the latest Taekwondo Championship Aahana received the following awards:
1. Gold - Cadet Female Individual Category (Poomsae)
2. Gold - Cadet Female-Mixed Pair Category (Poomsae)
3. Bronze - Cadet Female Under 47 kg Category (Kyorugi)
“I was happy to win the state championship, but having competed and won in the nationals previously, I realize that this is simply a steppingstone in a longer journey”, says Aahana, who as a winner of the gold medal in two categories, will represent Karnataka in the National Championships. “I aspire to participate in G1 level international tournaments, so that I can eventually represent India in the Asian Games.”
