PY Swimming Gala – Back again!
The two-day long incredible PY Swimming Gala took place between the 1-2 June has been completed with children from Pre-KG all the way to Grade 5. Prepared and arranged by the Physical Education Department, the events took place over entire days and were well planned. We met with Ms Kavita to get more information about swimming and how it affects physical and psychological well-being, as well as how much fun it in the water.
Swimming is a life skill. It is great for relaxation – Ms Kavita, PE Department
Except for being a competition, swimming is at the same time a good way to develop life skills, and physical and mental wellbeing. With swimming nearly all our muscles are involved, so it provides an overall body workout. “Most importantly it keeps our lungs and heart healthy”, explains Ms Kavita, who along with the entire PE Department planned and managed the event, alongside Ms Ester, who carried out presentations and announcements.
Most of TISB’s students love swimming. “In my experience, I have seen students who initially were afraid of water and later have gone on to participate and win in the inter-grade competitions”, says Ms Kavita, who believes that children mainly need a little bit of motivation and personal guidance. “Even during the pandemic, few of our students have participated in the state meet and created new meet records”, explains Ms Kavita, who is hoping to see everyone taking part. This will make several of them confident in the water and have them develop techniques which enable them to become even better swimmers.
“What a wonderful day PY!”, says Ms Emily passionately. After two years of limitations due to the pandemic, the PY Swimming Gala finally took place again. “It was fun, exciting and exhilarating as old records were broken and new ones were established”, says Ms Kavita, who feels like there is nothing like seeing the children smiling and cheering for their peers, while enjoying themselves in the water and under the sun. “Looking forward to make swimming enjoyable and fun for the students, and at the same time making progress in their swimming.”
