India’s Selfless Heroes of the Covid-19 Pandemic
Since the beginning of the global pandemic, people – young and old – have been suffering from immobility and the stress and mental struggle associated with the lack of social interaction and physical activity. As a response TISB Grade 11 students Rohan and Akash developed ‘Covid Fit Club’, an online fitness training enterprise, that has risen in popularity and gained recognition. The Covid Fit Club is, however, not a for-profit initiative, but donates all the proceeds to charity – especially to efforts that combats and mitigates the effects of the pandemic.
Recently United Nations India, NITI Aayog and Discovery India have joined hands to celebrate India’s selfless heroes of Covid-19 pandemic with ‘Bharat Ke Mahaveer’. The three-part documentary is hosted by Dia Mirza and Sonu Sood, will present 12 Covid warriors from across India. The creators who are recognising the unsung heroes, and reflecting of India’s gratitude to so many, have chosen Rohan and Akash to representing the efforts from Bangalore.
Since starting the initiative, Rohan and Akash’s team has grown from being just the two of them doing exercise classes from their homes, to presently including 43 team members: 15 instructors as well as 28 members on the business team – many of whom are students at TISB. Over 100 clients in the ages of 5-15 from all across India, take classes after school as well as on the weekend. As the members-base have grown, classes now include High-Intensity Interval Training, Dance Fitness and Yoga, hosted through 28 sessions per week via the online platform.
