Unite and Say No to Foam, Fire, Froth and Sewage – Save Bellandur Lake
For some time Gautam in Grade 12 has been engaged with environmental efforts regarding Bellandur Lake. The efforts related to the environment are revival, research and an AI for climate change.
Gautam started his project through the 1M1B (1 Million for 1 Billion) program, which was presented at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, in 2018. Since he has continued these efforts and have been nominated to help 1M1B to start AI for climate action clubs in hundreds of CBSE schools.
For the past three years, Gautam has been involved with the Bellandur Lake revival efforts. As part of his engagement developed the SaveBellandurLake.org platform to encourage and mobilise citizens and activists. To do this, Gautam has interviewed activists and scientists and published their interviews on the platform. He has also conducted bird walks, photo contests to raise awareness, as well as participated in tree-planting and cleaning drives.
Gautam was also invited to join the ‘Bellandur Kere’ (a citizens lake group), and has been their youth ambassador, giving interviews to the press. The media coverage has impacted the lake revival; and the State Government has since last year formalised a plan, and have started desilting the lake from waste along with other works.
