Comp Clean 2022
Comp Clean is a competition organized by Take the World Forward Fellows in partnership with Harvard Youth Lead the Change. Yash & Arjun of grade 12 are a part of the third cohort of the fellowship and are co-founders of this competition along with 3 others from Chennai, Hyderabad and Abu Dhabi. Comp Clean required participants to spend one day cleaning up a park nearby the participants' location or home, either individually or in a team, and weigh the litter they have collected. The team or individual who picks up the most litter (in terms of mass) is awarded the title of the most impactful team or participant.
“This was a great opportunity to give back to the community by simply keeping the neighbourhood clean. Littered public areas reflect a negative archetype of the area and impacts the reputation of the community and town in general. Comp Clean encourages maintaining public areas around the world, wherever you are, and provides awards to those who make the most impact in their surroundings.”
Yash was the Chief Organizer of our first clean-up on the 16th of July 2022 which was an astounding success. Registrations poured in from over 5 continents and we were delighted to have made such a great impact. Over 180 Kilograms of litter was picked up in a span of less than 12 hours. Furthermore, we put up over 40 no-littering signs across the globe. Our goal is to clean-up one tonne of trash and put up 100 no-littering signs by the end of the year and we are already 18% of the way to reach our first goal and 40% of our way to reach our second goal after just the 1 clean-up.
An outstanding number of participations in Comp Clean were from TISB and they demonstrated massive support and even winning many awards at Comp Clean. One participant which we can't leave out is Dev Jain from grade 10 as he was a part of the 'Most Impactful Team'.
