Happy Teachers' Day 2020 - Celebrating Our Great Teachers
Teachers are an invaluable resource to the world, both for individual students and their families, and for society as a whole. To celebrate their hard work and relentless commitment, India celebrates Teachers’ Day on 5 September each year. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ensuing and persisting closure of physical schools and classes, this group of professionals deserve extra admiration and praise.
The purpose of Teachers’ Day India is to commemorate teachers for their contributions in shaping the lives of students. The date also highlights the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a scholar and academic, Bharat Ratna recipient and the first Vice President and second President of independent India, who was born on 5 September 1888.
Being a teacher has never been easy, having thorough subject knowledge, a grip of different pedagogical methods and skills, and caring for a classroom of children every day is not an easy task. More than being responsible for a classroom of students and their education, teachers are in the driver’s seat of our children’s and society’s entire future. The 2020 pandemic and the resulting global shift to distance learning and online classrooms, has meant teachers having to completely re-think their delivery. Re-designing lesson plans, understanding how education is best delivered online and offline, learning new technology and learning platforms, learning new ways of monitoring students in virtual classrooms and following up on assignments to name but a few; and all the while ensuring the class on the other side of a screen is engaged and encouraged, and at the same time feeling well – both physically and mentally.
The world Teachers’ Day, on 4 October this year, will be celebrated under the theme: ‘Teachers: Leading in crisis, re-imagining the future’. According to UNESCO the day “provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements, and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind.”
TISB would like to pay tribute to its teachers for their engagement and efforts in making distance learning as engaging and enjoyable as possible for all of our students.
The students say it best and their messages of thanks can be seen on the Wall of Appreciation.
This year, on our 20th Anniversary, we would also like to pay tribute to our members of staff who have worked tirelessly with us for many years, and who have become an integral part of the TISB family and community.
To recognise this, we are awarding special certificates – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Thank you to all our teachers for continuously doing an amazing job. We know that you will keep up the good work, and we hope that you all have a fantastic Teachers’ Day!
