There For U - update 2 by Manya, Grade 10
Love is a FOUR Legged Word. TFU spread its love for the city’s animal through a unique Adoption Drive.
This winter, There For U Foundation celebrated Christmas with the real joy of giving. On 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of December TFU and its Young Positivists conducted the Paw-Market, Ludhiana's first adoption drive and a fundraiser bazaar for animal welfare.
Almost all families in Ludhiana have a dog to make their house a home. But unfortunately, everyone buys their companions based on their breeds or colour or something as fancy as trends. That is why, this winter, TFU wanted to create awareness, give stray animals a home or educate people to sponsor services for them.
We were bolstered by Shri Ram Universal School on 22nd, a well renowned school chain from New Delhi, and the very prestigious Silver Arc Mall on 23rd and 24th. We were trying to bring attention towards how one does not need to even physically adopt a dog to help them. One can adopt their treatments, surgeries, care or food for any period of time, while they are at the shelter or the foster home. But the cost for this kind of support can go up to ten thousand rupees per dog. That's where our Young Positivists (TFU member kids) came in the picture. 29 of them participated and braved the cold in open (as low as 5 degree C) to make this Paw-Market run for 3 days with their outstanding, hand-made products for sale.
We had four different sectors, apart from the awareness booth, where our young positivists put all their efforts to make the Paw Market come to life. There was the Games Corner, Merchandise Corner, Bake Sale, and the Furry Friend Shop. The ‘Awareness Elves’ on the other hand were spread all over the premises and reached out to over twelve hundred walk-ins and got gracious support. Our little puppies (Mongrels/Indie) were also present throughout, who became a pillar of support by drawing people into the market by their adorable charm.
The results?
- We had two adoptions!
- Over four queries concerning adoptions and more that continued to trickle in
- Over 1.75 Lakhs of sales and donations for helping our furry friends
- Food supply and blankets for shelters
- A changed mindset of many towards the ways in which they can help or adopt
- Extremely enriching and gratifying experience for our young positivists
TFU continues to work on the path of sustainability by helping, educating and acting on issues that matter. And Paw-Market was one such attempt.
It was, indeed, a very Merry Christmas for all of us!
