Music Concert – Grades 9&11
On Friday, the 20 May, Grade 11 students in the IB Music were part of the programme along with some Grade 9 IGCSE students. Shravan, the latest selected and announced Music Prefect, was also involved along with other students who are part of the after-school Jazz Band. We reached out to Shravan to find out more about what happened and how it went as the first performance in many years.
The show was brilliant! – Shravan, Grade 11, Music Prefect
The concert which was held as a moment of opportunity for IGCSE and IB students to finally have a real performance. It was a great feeling taking place during and after the concert, a real recital happening the first time after several years, and where students got up on stage and performed for an audience. “It was incredibly refreshing and I'm super glad we got the chance to do it, because I think it gave both the students and the audience a cultural experience that we've been missing for so long”, says Shravan, who found that it led to the performances happening in an excellent way after the very long time.
This concert happened with IGCSE and IB students performing a mixture of solo performances and ensembles. Genre-wise it was really a diversified event, where performers played everything from Bach to Bryan Adams to Lo-Fi. “I think a lot of the performers overcame performance anxiety, which really peaked during COVID”, says Shravan, and adds how inspirational it was to finally see other students defeating fears. “I hope students continue to carry these attitudes throughout their courses in both the arts and otherwise.”
Together with Shravan, Mr Olav and Mr Anand were engaged in putting the show together, as well as Mr Janardhan and his team who helped to set up the stage, sound and lights. “And the students too – the show was brilliant!”, says Shravan.
