Ignite the Dream - Taara's Story

TISB student Taara from Grade 10 took part in the Greenwood High ‘Ignite Festival’ that was going on online between the 4-8 November. Her performance won second place in the Vocal Synapse category. The contributions to the competition is available on YouTube (see link below).

I definitely want to participate in more vocal events in the future – even though in this event I stepped out of my comfort zone – Taara, Grade 10

The online Ignite Festival, arranged by Greenwood High, had different categories – ranging from debate to dance – that were premiered at a set time on YouTube during the 4-8 November. Encouraged by her best friend, Taara joined the inter-school competition. “I wouldn't have joined without my best friends or my family, so the event also made me aware of how much support I had”, says Taara who regret previously missing out on participating in solo acts and concerts. 

In the Vocal Synapse category, Taara and her fellow competitors had to choose a minimum of 3 songs of different language or genre, and make a medley without any backing track. Each song had to be at least 30 seconds, and were judged on versatility and choice of songs. Taara’s category had two rounds, where contributions were selected to pass on to the next round. The Vocal Synapse category started out with 12 participants, of which Taara was awarded second place in the final round. 

Although being her first time participating with a music act and nerves were playing in, Taara is glad that she did and wants to continue in the future. “I decided it was time to showcase my talents, and it was the first inter-school event that I participated in with music – which was why it was so important”, says Taara. “I still enjoyed a lot, and I want to keep trying to step out of my comfort zone”.
