Head Boy & Head Girl - Introduction for the New Academic Year
Every year, TISB engages Grade 12 student Prefects in distinct roles across the school and the student body. This is done to increase student-led activities and provide channels for student voices and influence. Part of the student Prefects are the Head Boy and Head Girl, who have central roles of the student body. This year, the Head Boy and Head Girl are Rohan and Shrishti. We reached out to them both to get to know more about them and what they see as important and want to work with the upcoming Academic Year.
Shrishti, Head Girl | Rohan, Head Boy |
I was born in Bangalore and have lived here all my life. I'm currently situated here. | I was born in Boston and live in Bangalore. I am located in the US right now, and hope to be back in the next few days! |
I joined TISB in 9th Grade, so this is my 4th year here. | I joined the School in KG1 – so I am going into my 14th year now. |
My favourite animal would probably be a cat – I've sheltered quite a few stray cats in my childhood, and they've definitely found a soft spot in my heart. | My favourite food would have to be either Mexican or Thai, and I love listening to pop and rock music. |
My favourite hobby is probably dancing Kathak. I've been dancing since I was 5, and it's been a huge part of my life so far. It helps me de-stress and truly immerse myself in something. It involves storytelling, something I always enjoy doing. | It would have to be sports. Sports (for me squash), regardless of which sport, really helps me maintain a balance and strive for excellence with my academics. |
Both Rohan and Shrishti have through their experience found that the best thing about being a student at TISB is the connection with students and teachers, as well as the wider community that one is surrounded by. “Being in this school for 14 years, it feels as though every time I walk through the gates in the morning, I am entering my second home”, says Rohan, whose favourite memory of his time at TISB is the mango eating competition he won at lunch in Grade 2. “With such a diverse background of students, you're bound to meet interesting people and forge strong relationships with them”, says Shrishti, also appreciating the supportive teachers, who she has become close to because of their conversations on topics even outside of the syllabus.
This year’s Head Girl and Head Boy, have similar visions for the upcoming Academic Year. Both have a focus and strive for stronger relationships and bonds, among students as well as students and teachers. “I've been lucky enough to have these relationships, but many people I know don't understand how important and also fun it is”, says Shrishti who aims at facilitating these bonds to make sure that everyone has the best time they can. Similarly, Rohan would like to stress the importance of switching on one's web-camera, and that way aim to mimic in-person classes through a more interactive setting. By doing so, he seeks to “try to ensure that online school, in particular, is as engaging and fun as possible!”
For richer bonds and relationships to grow, and to find motivating and engaging contexts, being passionate and following one’s interests and dreams are central. “Often we forget what we love, with so much going on. So, it is vital to ensure that you keep loving what you are doing and stay motivated through these tough times by doing things you love”, says Rohan, whose interest in sports helps him reconnect with himself and focus academically. Moreover, to be able to follow one’s passion, it is important “to make sure everyone in our school knows that they have opportunities to speak and have their voice heard, whether it's to advocate for an issue or just build a strong support system”, says Shrishti who, together with Rohan, welcomes all students to contact them if they have any issues, ideas or needs.
