Growing up by the western seaside in England, Ms Emily, Deputy Principal in PY, was one of four children. She chose to leave her home at the age of 18, to pursue a great teaching career in Brighton, while at the same time not choosing to give up the sea. After working in two schools in the south-east of England, Ms Emily relocated to an International School in Shanghai for five years. Fortunately, her time in China gave her the chance to visit India, which allowed her to find and join TISB and living happy and fruitful five years. We reached out to Ms Emily to find out more about her history and what recommendations she gives for the future.

I have lived happily here for five fruitful years and developed professionally in my senior leadership role – Ms Emily, Deputy Principal in PY

Joining TISB in 2017, Ms Emily has been working for 5 years: She began as a classroom teacher in Grade 5 and being an English Subject Leader, before going onto becoming the PY Curriculum Coordinator and PY Deputy Principal for the last three years. “The children and the teachers undoubtedly are the best things about working at TISB. We’re like one big family”, says Ms Emily, who is passionate and committed to the organisational culture in PY. “It is something which is caring, trusting and collaborative – teamwork makes the dream work! The big, beautiful campus helps, of course!”

At this time of the year, when students finish a grade – particularly Grade 5 – it is very important and exciting. “I would like to say well done and congratulations – we got through it and survived distance learning together! Enjoy being a child. Childhood leaves you in a blink”, says Ms Emily, who encourages the students to pay attention to other people and cultures. “Travel and visit places off the beaten track. ‘Oh the places you can go!’ Keep working hard, and life will reward you. Keep being happy and true to yourself. No one else can make you happy but yourself!”

Although time at TISB is coming to an end, Ms Emily is happily pleased with her great time at TISB and the great chances for living and travelling in the country. “Thank you for being part of my Indian adventure! It has been an incredible journey personally as well as professionally”, says Ms Emily who is grateful for all the friendships and support that she has had. “I wish you all the best of health and happiness for the future. India, watch out – I don’t think you’ve seen the last of me yet!”

What is your favourite food?
Cheese, crackers and eggs – in that order! I have mayonnaise on literally everything I eat!

What is your favourite book and movie?
This is a tricky question. I have too many favourite books and films.

What is your favourite animal?
Bangalore fruit bats.

What is your favourite colour?
Turquoise.

What is your favourite hobby?
Reading academia about topics on Educational Leadership and writing my own poetry – like chalk and cheese, but both help me find the right balance between work and play.
