In the midst of a global pandemic, TISB students organised the most visited Xavage event ever. With over 200 participants from all over the world, the student organisers carried out the annual TISB economic and business event on the 10 - 11 October this year. Now that the hustle and bustle of the event is over, we got in touch with Grade 12 student Sanjana from the team behind the success.

The results have come in, and we are ecstatic on behalf of all the well deserving victors! – Sanjana, Grade 12

Every year Xavage, with the slogan “Let’s talk business”, is conducted to give students the opportunity to apply their business cleverness in a competitive environment. It allows them to further their business and economics knowledge, but also to learn more about the field from practical experience. “By participating our unique events, ranging from stock market trading to corporate law, participants are given a glimpse into the intricacies of the corporate world and often times find what they truly want to pursue in the future”, says Sanjana, one of the organisers of the event.

Xavage is completely organised by TISB Grade 12 students, and this year hosted events such as the Shark Tank inspired ‘Trojan’s Castle’, a mock stock market exchange called ‘Wolves of Wall Street’, ‘E-Covid’ where students come up with pioneering economic solutions to worldly problems, and a corporate law live event called ‘Suits’. This years Xavage gathered over 200 students from Grades 10 to 12 from India, but also places like United Kingdom, Korea and other corners of the world to take part in the online business and economic fest – for both glory and prize money.

Because of the global COVID-19 pandemic, this year the event took place virtually on Microsoft Teams, where each sub-event had its own channel and the participants would enter their event’s channel using an ID which was provided to them beforehand. The opening and closing ceremony of the event were streamed live on Microsoft Teams. Organising this kind of event is not a small feat, especially online with a large number of participants. In preparations the Xavage team had multiple practice runs to try to foresee and overcome problems before the final day. However, the day before the event an email error occurred and the team had to work throughout the night to solve the issue. Behind the scenes third party glitches also happened that required immediate action. “With the collective cooperation of our tech department and event Head of Departments, we were able to detect these lapses in a timely manner to ensure a perfectly smooth event day”, says Sanjana.

Since Xavage this year was no longer bound by geographical boundaries and restrictions, more participants could join than ever before. With their acute business mindedness, the team decided to – rather than charging a registration fee, which could possibly be a disincentive for participation –  funds for the event were raised through sponsorships. “This allowed us to become the most profitable Xavage till date”, explains Snajana. All of the profits from Xavage are donated to charity, giving less fortunate students an opportunity to get a good education and work towards achieving a meaningful and enjoyable future.
