On Thursday 25 March, TISB was visited by two members of the French Consulate and Alliance Française, a French language centre in Bangalore. The socially distanced visit was arranged by TISB’s French Department and Dr Caroline, as the school is looking to promote French language studies and create awareness among students on the benefits of learning French. Ms Nandita, Head of the French Department, told us more about the visit.

French is the 5th most spoken language in the world and the 2nd most used language in the world of business – Ms Nandita, HoD French Department

Yesterday TISB welcomed Mr Eric Perrotel, a representative from the French Consulate, and Mr Cristian J R, the Director of Alliance Française de Bangalore, which is managed by the French Embassy. The TISB French Department is looking to establish a partnership with the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore which will benefit students who are interested in taking the DELF exam (European standard language assessment exam for French) by rewarding them a 40 % discount on the exam fee.

French is an important language around the world, and learning French is a way to open many doors for the future. “It is the official language in many international organisations like UN and WHO and it is also the official language of many countries across nearly all the continents”, says Ms Nandita, who goes on to explain that most French speaking countries are economically strong and well developed, making them possible destinations for future career opportunities for students.

In the near future, the French Department is planning to make TISB a ‘School of Excellence in the French Language’ with the Institut Francais de l'Inde managed by the French Embassy in India. “Once we become a School of Excellence in French Language, all our school French activities will be promoted and supported by the Institut Francais de l'Inde and the school and French teachers will be prioritised in the various professional development sessions organised by the Institute”, says Ms Nandita.
