Wake Up to Rock and Roll
Being a musician and having a musical talent can be a great benefit, both for the artist and the listener. Siddharth in Grade 7 is one of those, and his teachers and class mates enjoy hearing him play the guitar at registration and at the beginning and end of classes. We reached out to Siddharth and his teachers to get to know more about the benefits of music in education.
I enjoy playing the guitar because I love creating music and the guitar is my way to do it – Siddharth, Grade 7
Siddharth usually opens registration every day at 7:45AM with playing a tune on his guitar. This lifts the spirits among tired students and breaks their sleepy morning. “I think music is important because it is a way for the artist to have fun as well as the listeners”, says Siddharth who has played the guitar for around five years and the piano for around three. “He makes sure he entertains his fellow mates and also motivates them”, says Maths teacher Ms Punitha, who also appreciates Siddharth’s drama and voice mimicry.
Siddharth enjoys playing rock, metal, lofi hip hop and pop music, something that inspires and lifts the mood of his teachers as well. “It is always so refreshing to listen to him amidst this technical chemistry subject. Siddarth is uplifting the mood of the class by playing guitar five minutes before the end of the lesson”, says Science teacher Mr Aman, whose students always eagerly await Siddharth’s performance. His musical interludes have now become so popular that other students are following his example.
Siddharth’s musical talents do not stop at online lessons and his class mates; he is hoping to grow bigger and expand beyond the classroom. “I want to become a professional musician and record my own music as well as play live”, says Siddharth, whose music is available on Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube, under the artist name ‘theMadSquid’.
