Olympiad Winner – Medals in three Subjects
Last year, Grade 7 student Veer took part in the ‘Silverzone Olympiad’, who recently presented the results of the competition. Through his certificates, Veer found out that he had gained a gold medal in Mathematics, gold medal in General Knowledge, and a bronze medal in English. We got in touch with Veer to find out more about his experience.
Such external tests help us understand our potential, but they don't determine our success – Veer, Garde 7
Silverzone is an educational and nonprofit organisation, with over 10 years of experience and a base in New Delhi. The organisation believes that education should be both challenging and motivating to incentivise students. His teachers encouraged Veer to take part in the Olympiad when he joined Grade 5. Then he took part in the English subject competition and won Gold. Since then, Veer’s interest has been peaked. “This encouraged me to take up 3 subjects”, says Veer, who was preparing for TISB entrance tests which helped him train with increased confidence.
Taking English, which is his favourite subject, General Knowledge and Mathematics in Grade 6, Veer had to participate online this year. “Math and English were easy breezy”, says Veer, “but General Knowledge took a lot of thought, as for a few questions I had to do reasoning and elimination, so I was not confident”, says Veer who felt more comfortable and focused being at home. “It exhilarates me and increases my confidence”, says Veer about the win. But it also worries him slightly, as he now believes he has to better himself even more.
Veer finds the Olympiad inspiring, however, he believes that it should not define us too much: "If this year I appear for these Olympiad and don't get a medal or a good score, it would not mean that I have lost my potential. It would mean that I need to work hard as there are more competent students competing.”
