TISB students nominated as 2021 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists
We are pleased to announce that two of our Grade 12 students, Maanasi and Anand have made it to the semifinals in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, and have an opportunity to continue in the competition. They join about 16,000 semifinalists out of about 1.6 million students who enter the scholarship competition.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college scholarships. The Program began in 1955, and approximately 1.6 million high school students enter the competition each year. High School students who meet the program’s entry and participation requirements enter the NMSQ program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) at the specified time in the high school program, usually as juniors.
The National Merit Scholarship Program has become somewhat of a TISB tradition, and it gives students a good boost of recognition for their college exams. Last year former TISB student Rohan received the scholarship in the final round. The next step for semifinalists Maanasi and Anand, is to submit their transcripts and recommendations and fill in their part of the application in October.
Registration for the test is by high school rather than individual student. Ms Priya from the College Counselling Department will send out a Microsoft Form for students to register their interest. If you are interested in entering the scholarship competition, and have questions, speak with your college counsellor for advice and on how to proceed and for arranging to take the PSAT/NMSQT.
We wish both Maanasi and Anand all the best luck in the round of semifinals!
