Photon Magazine is back
The TISB Photon Magazine is about to relaunch after having a break for about a year. The magazine that is written and curated by TISB students, is a platform for physic enthusiasts. The last issue was published in August 2019, and treats topics related to everything that has to do with the physical universe around us. The magazine is currently looking for correspondents from Grades 7-11 who would be interested in providing content for this issue.
The Photon Magazine is a platform for physics enthusiasts to exchange their ideas and learn more. It is a place of rabbit holes and black holes, and supernovas and quarks. It is a forum for learning, showcasing and sharing – The Photon Team.
The Photon Magazine was founded by former TISB student, Aditya Gaur, who then passed on the torch to the current team. The core team of the magazine currently includes Grade 11 students Aanya, Shrishti and Siddhant. They are all very passionate about physics and scientific theories. And passion is the seed of the magazine that was started because there is a lack of physics platforms for physics enthusiasts – especially those in Middle or Senior School. “Being enthusiasts ourselves, we understand the need for such a forum”, explains the Photon Team. The Photon Magazine provides exactly that; a confection of trivia and scientific theories that people have researched and stumbled upon. Through the magazine these can finally be shared, and most importantly, discussed. “At the Photon Magazine, we want to promote learning and research while also building a community of like-minded passionate and driven peers”, says the team behind the publication.
This year The Photon Team also organised an after school club at TISB, where they gather and discuss ideas and physics. The club is an extension to the Photon Magazine, which builds on the idea of creating a forum for discussions and debates about scientific theories. By joining the Photon Club, or becoming a correspondent to the Photon Magazine, students become contributing members of the community, in which they can be exposed to other topics in physics which normally would not be explored in the classroom. Although the magazine focuses on physics, it is open to everyone. The team behind the magazine explains: “You don’t need a scientifically-inclined mind to be fascinated by Schrodinger’s equation. You don’t need to be a physics student to understand the concept of wave-particle duality. We are even open to interdisciplinary discussions, on topics such as quantum computing, as well as manifestations of physics in popular culture. All you need is a hunger to learn”.
The plan for the magazine is to release an issue every quarter, on the online platform Issuu. The members of the Photon Team are currently working on our first issue for 2020, which should be released at the beginning of November. They are at the moment looking for more correspondents from Grades 7-11 who would be interested in providing content for this issue. As for the future the team hopes to “expand on a greater scale and spread the joy of physics to more interested students”.
