The TISB Hacks is a student-led Hackathon arranged by a team of TISB students. The event will be held between the 18-20 February, and will be a 48 hour marathon event, where students get the opportunity to showcase their programming skills and compete for exciting prizes while tackling real life issues. We got in touch with Aanya and Vinayak from the team of organisers, to find out more about the upcoming event.

The students will be introduced to the exciting world of technology and will be encouraged to use available technological tools to address some of the biggest problems the world is facing today – Aanya and Vinayak

TISBHacks is TISB's first-ever virtual hackathon that will be held over 48 hours from February 18-20. The team behind the event hopes that because the event is being held virtually it will bring together a large number of students. The participants will be tasked with tackling issues in fields such as healthcare, community, environment and open innovation. The best solutions will win exciting prizes, financed by the events official sponsors. “We believe that, when given the chance to do so, students can prototype and execute ground-breaking ideas”, says Aanya and Vinayak, who are part of the team of organisers, who are all TISB students from Grades 8 to 12.

The event is open for all school students in two categories; Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12 from all over Bangalore. Any team that joins the event must be between 1-5 members strong. “In reaching out to this audience with the themes and purpose that we have in mind, we hope to collectively produce innovative solutions and help students build on their passion”, explains Aanya and Vinayak, who believes that the competition element will entice and encourage participants to make use of technology to address real-life issues.

The event will take place virtually on TISBHacks' private Discord server. Students can register through the official TISBHacks website, and once the student has registered, they will be sent a Microsoft forms link and an invite to join the TISBHacks Discord server. A panel of judges will decide the top 3 teams from both the middle school and high school categories. The selected winning teams will be awarded with exciting prizes. To build the teams skills, there will also be workshops and fun activities taking place before and during the hackathon.

The team must submit the MS Form by 7PM on the 16 February. The student must have an existing Discord account or must create a new one to be able to participate in the hackathon. Students from the TISBHacks team will be present on the server to monitor the students and provide assistance when needed.

Aanya and Vinayak leaves interested students with an encouragement: “One of our sponsors, echoAR, is offering a challenge to Senior students. Participants will have access to echoAR's Business tier services during the competition for free, and if they use the platform to build an AR/VR application, the winners will get one month's worth of free Business tier echoAR services, and a 50$ Amazon voucher for the team.”
