Last week we wrote a story about the winners, Pranav and Tejas, of the OakFest Hackathon that took place over 24 hours on the 23 January. Since then we have gotten to know that another team from TISB, Grade 8 students Naman, Yash and Arjun, won the third prize in the competition. Therefore, we reached out and contacted the team to get to know more about their participation in the competition.

We decided to participate as, it would be a new and delightful experience and, we hoped to learn new skills relating to programming – Yash, Naman and Arjun, Grade 8

For all of the members of the team, the OakFest was their first ever proper hackathon. “We think competitions like these are important as, they give young programmers confidence and motivation to code”, says the team, who is thankful to the Oakridge school for giving them the opportunity to hack.

To win third place in the competition the team developed a program called ‘Hospital Database’. “We all depend on hospitals on a daily basis but, they have difficulty storing patient records and many of them have to do it manually”, says the team while explaining their project. The idea behind their app is to make it significantly easier for hospitals to store and handle patient records. “It is important as it makes storage of data quick and efficient for hospitals”, explains the team that have included features, such as ‘add, save, select, delete and search’.

The timing of their app is essential. Because of COVID-19, hospitals are flooded with patients; and use a lot of paper to store their data which pollutes the environment. “This program makes the way of storing data completely digital and time efficient. It helps hospitals take care of their patients better and saves the environment”, says the team who plan to invest 5000 rupees in the app – which was the prize money they won at the OakCodeFest. “We will attempt to approach a few nearby hospitals which store their data manually. Our goal is to help making healthcare more efficient by hospitals using them”, concludes the team.
