SustainAbility - Sustainable Living
This Thursday, 2 June, Ameya from Grade 10 held an online talk in partnership with the NGO, I Love To Care India, and Rotary Bangalore. In the session, Ameya presented issues and solutions related to the disposal of bio-medical waste – one of the current environmental issues during the pandemic, and opened up for a discussion with the participants. Ameya has recently started a platform called ‘SustainAbility’. We got in touch with Ameya to find out more about his initiative and plans for the future.
“I felt that the problem was not being addressed at an individual level” – Ameya, Grade 10
After having seen various articles on environmental challenges and climate change in newspapers, on television and in other media sources, Ameya felt that there was something that needed to be done. “I also felt that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals would not be achieved by 2030 without the collective efforts of all”, says Ameya, who as a result decided to start SustainAbility.
SustainAbility is a platform that aims to spread awareness on sustainable living. By giving individuals and households ideas and methods on how to adapt their behaviour, the initiative hopes to contribute towards a sustainable future. The team behind SustainAbility believes that the solutions to various problems associated with climate change, can be achieved through efforts at the individual level. When awareness and information is spread to one person, they will then spread it on to several more – creating an exponential curve – and many more people change their behaviour for a better future.
Although SustainAbility targets everyone, from all age groups, youth is especially interesting to the initiative. “I feel that by targeting the younger generation, I would be able to spread the solutions faster and ensure that we can adopt a sustainable future”, says Ameya and encourages anyone who is interested in taking a step towards sustainable living to join them. In the future, the team hopes to create and run several campaigns and initiatives, all set out to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
