Unifying the Peninsula – Korean Unification Golden Bell
TISB Grade 11 student, Seongjoon, recently won the first prize in the 2020 ‘Korean Unification Golden Bell – Asia-Pacific Regional Conference’. The event that was held in November 2020, had 44 students participating from 12 countries who passed the regional preliminary contest of six councils. Students from Grades 8 to 12 took part in the final, and the event was held on Zoom and using the online quiz contest app Kahoot.

The Korean Unification Golden Bell – Asia-Pacific Regional Conference mainly focused on the history of the Republic of Korea, and how the next generation must know and the importance of unification on the Korean Peninsula. “I thought that participating in this competition would be a good way to contribute to my goal as it enriches my knowledge regarding the history and culture of my country”, says Seongjoon who is passionate about the development and unification of his home country.
The purpose of the event was to encourage 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of overseas Koreans to develop their understanding of the historical necessity and justification of lasting peace and peaceful reunification between South and North Korea. The conference and the accompanied competition involved Korean students living in different countries. The participants joined Zoom and Kahoot through their devices, and were introduced to and solved 50 problems given to them by the organisers.
“I hope this achievement can enable me to contribute meaningfully to the success of the unification of the Korean Peninsula. In addition, it should also inform the world of the importance and the necessity of the same”, explains Seongjoon who won the 1st place in the Asia Pacific Final as a representative of the Southwest Asian Council.
