G Force UTR Tournament Winner
Grade 10 student, Saksham recently won the G Force UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) Tennis tournament in Bangalore. The tournament was carried out in a knock-out format, where both men and women played against each other, where Saksham won against one of the G Force Academy players, 6-0 and 6-1 to take the title. The tournament added on to Saksham’s UTR ranking that is currently at 10.51. We got in touch with Saksham to learn more about his victory and tennis journey.
It was a great experience, and I loved playing at the academy, it was a quiet, and serene venue – Saksham, Grade 10
Saksham is glad that he won the tournament, as the head coach at G Force Academy noticed his game and gave him a 200 USD UTR premium subscription. “I am very grateful that he chose me to be the recipient of the same”, says Saksham who has previously this year also won singles and doubles in the Myra Tennis Cup.
Saksham started his UTR journey in the summer of 2019. Since then he has been working hard on improving it. Saksham has been been playing tennis for about nine years and started taking it more seriously about 3 years ago, when he noticed the benefits it might have for the future. “I got to know that UTR is very important for colleges and getting into college tennis especially, so I have been working my way up to get the highest rating possible”, says Saksham who is hoping to get his UTR rating to about 12 by the time he applies to colleges.
Saksham hopes that the situation in India and Bangalore gets better soon so that he can participate in more UTR and AITA tournaments. “But more importantly, the tournaments where I can represent TISB!”, says Saksham who is happy when he wears a blue shirt and playing as a member of a school team – one that he misses. “I cannot wait to get back on the courts to try and win some trophies for the school!”, says Saksham who wants to keep putting in the effort and be on a path of improvement. “For me, determination and hard-work is key”, he concludes.
